Q: If I attach the Rod Sprocket to my tackle bag/box, is it going to be pulled into the water when I catch a fish?

A: Your tackle bag/box will need to weigh at least 8 lbs and your drag set to a pound or two as normal. It would take a large fish of approximately 40 pounds to pull over your bag/box. We have commonly used our 11 pound tackle bag on the shoreline and have hooked onto 30-40 lb sturgeon and between the drag and rod flex, the tackle bag hardly moved.  (Remember, most anglers will be at the ready near their rod to set the hook and pull the rod out of the holder to start working the fish on.)

Q: What is it made of?

A: Plates are made from a high quality HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) for strength, UV and impact resistance, Nylon pins for strength and flexibility. We use a heavy duty 1 1/2" x 6' nylon strap along with a nickel plated alligator buckle that provides great tightening ability.

Q: Can you use on a boat?

A: Yes, can be strapped to the chair backs. Can also be strapped around the main motor while utilizing the trolling motor, giving fishermen a line straight out the back of the boat.

Q: Does it secure tightly?

A: Yes it does, simply pull the loose end of the webbing through the teeth of the buckle and pull tight.

Q: Can it accommodate a fly rod?

A: Only fly rods that are equipped with a long enough butt end, such as a fighting butt.

Q: What size rod does it hold?

A: It can accommodate up to 1 1/4", which is a typical medium sized rod.

Q: Can I use the rod holder in a flat position?

A: No, just like any other rod holder, it must face upwards (strap can run horizontal or vertical for securement, but the sprocket channels must be facing upwards)

Q: Can I replace the strap with a ratchet strap so I can really tighten it down?

A: No, there is no need to use a ratchet strap as our strap and buckle configuration provides ample tightening ability. If a ratchet strap was used you can over torque and snap the strap tabs off.

Q: If I have any other questions, how can I contact you?

A: Email us through our web site.
